Does anyone know if there is a maximum amout that the Government pays to a person if the company they work for goes bust and is this automatic or do you have to apply for it.
Thanks for any help you can give have been on the internet but cannot find a definite amount.

As I read the relevant legislation, the Secretary of State (through the National Insurance Fund) has to pay exactly the same amount that the employer would have done if the firm had not become insolvent. See here:
