The brick wall at the front of my house has, just over this winter, suffered from what appears to be serious spalling. The wall contains a 3' raised garden of about 15 square meters. I'm particularly concerned because it faces the road and now looks REALLY tatty. My question is this; can I seal and render over this as a short term solution (to last, perhaps, a couple of years until I can afford to replace it) or is this a big no no?

I just saw this and gave a quick call to my husband who is a builder. And the jist of what he said (if you're both talking about the same thing) is it's perfectly fine to do that, scrub the wall with a wire brush to get off any loose bits, seal it (I don't know what with, I suppose you could ask at B&Q) and then render it, hope this helps.
