"Islam" in action? It was one man! Whatever gives you the idea that all Muslims are identical? Are all atheists?
jno

/////Are all atheists?////

Have you ever heard of an Atheist terrorist attack?
There are about 1.3 billion Muslims in the world. That's quite a lot who haven't launched terrorist attacks.
Sqad much as I hate to point it out being an atheist myself

Stalin was responsible for some pretty attrocious actions in his represstion of religion in the USSR.

If those don't count as Athiest terror attacks I don't know what would

whenever I see these Atheist/religion threads I'm always reminded of Quentin Crisp, an Atheist,
lecturing in Northern Ireland on Atheism. On one occasion when he had finished his lecture, a woman stood up and said" Mr Crisp, is it a protestant or Catholic God you don't believe In" ?

According to the link, he denies the charges, however, if he is guilty, and the attack was in the name of his religion, then birdies accusation is correct. I don't see how it can be otherwise.

Jno – Did you actually read the article? If you did I'm sure you would have noticed that the accused has close links to an Islamic group in Somalia called al-Shabab. Note the word 'group'.

This 'group' has praised the attack and encouraged other Islamic groups to do something similar.

If you could have been bothered to click the link and read the report before firing off your badly thought out reply, you would also have noticed the following sentence - “Islamic militants have placed a $1m (£620,000) price on Mr Westergaard's [the cartoonist's] head.”

So which part of this story does not display various Islamic groups as being anything other than barbaric?
Just because he says it's in the name of religion doesn't make it true, Lonnie. Even the pope can't speak for all Christians, however much he'd like to; it appears that from their use of birth control that he doesn't even speak for very many Catholics. The archbishop of Canterbury clearly doesn't speak for an awful lot of homophobic Anglicans. No doubt this man thought he was acting in the name of Islam. The 1,299,999,999 (approximately) Muslims who haven't attacked non-Muslims no doubt also think they're doing the right thing in turning the other cheek (the ones I know certainly do). The weight of opinion seems to be on their side.
sorry, didn't see your post birdie. My answer still stands. Care to guess how many Muslims are in these 'various groups'? More than a billion perhaps?
puppets.....having their strings pulled by imams
I wish some of those you know would stand up and be counted then, jno. Although I've seen plenty of Muslims demonstrating, calling for western heads to roll, and burning western flags, I've yet to see any marching in protest at the atrocities carried out in the name of Islam.
nobody is under the slightest obligation to stand up and be counted. Not even at election time (some countries make voting compulsory; we do not). If they did so, I can't guarantee it would make your newspaper or TV news, though.
Several muslims dared to speak out against the nonsense over that teddy bear in Sudan, the response from the free speaking liberal minded Brits was (who are quick to criticise) was largely mute to say the least.

Jno – Is there a magic number that you have to reach before you can claim that the Islamic faith is host to some very unsavoury characters?

Clearly, you think one man is not enough ('“Islam" in action? It was one man!”'). Maybe, two or three perhaps?

How about 3000 men? Is that enough to bring Islam into disrepute?
How about 7000 men? Is that enough?

The apologists for Islam always claim that it's just some nutter working on his or her own and they never truly represent Islam.

Just how many times do we have to hear this line before we start to think, hang on.... something's not right here? How many violent, murderous lunatics who claim to be Islamic do we (ie. those who don't follow Allah) have to tolerate before we wake up and see Islam for what it truly and transparently is - a violent, nasty, intolerant, middle-aged thinking theocracy that should have been consigned to history's dustbin years ago?
So what's your solution Birdie, what should be done about the Muslims?
jno/jake/infundibulum.

I certainly got my knuckles rapped over my Atheist terrorist posts....probably quite rightly.

My definition of terrorist is a minority radical faction of a religious faction, so non religious bodies i.e Communists and Khymer Rouge are excluded from my argument. Tamil Tigers are either Muslims or Hindus, which to me makes them religious and not Atheists. Mercenaries? how do we know what religion they are, could be C of E or Catholics.................or Atheists. Death squads? same as applies to Mercenaries.

All your points have been taken on board.
jno, no, no one is under obligation to stand up and be counted, but ask yourself why Muslims don't protest against atrocities when they are not only being murdered along with all the other victims, they are also being tarred with the same brush as the terrorists. You say that the Pope doesn't speak for all Christians, and that's true, but you clearly fail to consider the effect that Islam has on its adherents. In Islam there is no concession to freedom of thought. The Koran rules lives with an iron fist. Everton mentioned that several Muslims 'dared' to speak out against the teddy bear fiasco. 'Dared'? That says it all.

The people (and there are many) who are bent on committing these terrible acts are madmen possessed of a 7th century intellect who are on a mission to rule the world. Their religion states definitively that men are superior to women, it offers virgins (as though they were prize cows) as a 'reward' for murder in the name of Allah, and the deafening silence of the 'moderate' Muslim does absolutely nothing to discourage them, to educate them, or to encourage social cohesion - but nevertheless you support it.

Everton, what did you expect 'free speaking liberal minded Brits' to do when those people spoke up? Clearly our media reported it, otherwise you wouldn't have known about it.
I was talking about on here, I posted a question sayng that like minded people should speak up in support, very few did.
When you read the tone of Birdie's post, it would, it has to be said, be difficult for any Muslim to align themselves with groups of individuals with those views.
In such cases the vast majority of people duck and go shopping instead.
When you have a vociferous and deadly clique bullying dissenters into silence to speak out against it is brave.
The same sort of thing goes in council estates up and down the country with criminal gangs, their silence isn't support.
