can anyone give me a hint as to where, on or off line, i can buy white vinegar in amounts larger than the silly sizes you find in the local british supermarket.

Go to a cash and carry, local asian/oriental supermarket or just have a word with your local store........you'd be able to pick up trade sizes through any of these methods.....

Yep most wholesalers sell larger sizes.  Maybe try Costco or Macro
