FireFox problems

I have been using IE for about ten years but after a recent crash of my computer (Norton was involved) I had to get Windows XP reinstalled. The computer guy told me that FireFox was safer all around.

But when I come out of FireFox and then try to get back in or shut down the computer it seems that some programmes are running in the background. This usually means keeping a web-page open all the time or shutting the computer down and restarting it.

Is there something I can do?

"it seems that some programmes are running in the background" is kinda vague.
Can you be a little more explicit?
Sometimes, usually when I've been running Firefox for a while and visiting a lot of sites, if I shut it down and then try to start it again, I get a message telling me that it is still running. But as I have it set to delete the cache and all personal data every time I close it, waiting a couple of seconds to let it finish deleting all the rubbish solves the problem.
you're right - sounds so much better than IE(?) - I Just use IE version 8 without any problems (how boring)!
should I change - at least it would give me something to worry about

firefox is no longer the safe haven it was. as more people have started using it ... the crimms have recognised that there are enough users to make their attention worthwhile - and so it's now targeted more heavily than IE -because people who use it are also likely to bank and buy online.

the joy is - that even if you update it regularly (few do) the detect and fix rate is far slower than for IE.... and last count there were more unfixed vulnerabilities

as a security defence anonymity only works as a protection until the word spreads ....
AC, Bill asked me to tell you the cheque's in the post :-)

rojash nope - that is as technical as I get.

huderon sometimes it is hours later before I go back in and the error messageis the same as the one you get. I also find the computer closing down when I am using firefox.

ACtheTROLL If firefox is no longer the all singing and dancing better than IE browser I might go back to IE. Life is complicated enough.

Thanks to all three of you.

While Firefox is more popular than it used to be, and thus more targeted, it's still leaps and bounds above IE.

Regardless of security (both are pretty good to be honest), Firefox has a ton more features available, as well as being far more standards compliant (so that it can render website better).

Make sure you have all your Firefox windows open, including any that were there showing what you're downloading, or anything like that.
