what is the name of the song from the late 70's featuring little "blurbs" from movies, etc throughout the song.  I think a reporter "narrates" the song, and I vaguely remember one of the blurbs being "Kong, Kong, Kong"..and I think another one was "at the car wash" (obviously from both King Kong & Car Wash)..

Was it Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult?
You're thinking of the novelty single "Kong" by Dickie Goodman.  He was famous for his "break-in" records, that is, he was a reporter and his "questions" were answered by snippets of popular songs.  Others that he did were "Mr. Jaws" and "Energy Crisis '74".
