I have a table which is made out of half square inch pieces of stone. They are red and here and there have slivers of copper (not oxidised) in them.
Anyone know what sort of stone it is?

Unfortunately, AB isn't that good and don't have a photoshop album website thingy to post to.

Will look in to it.

It's just an idea and I may be wrong but they might be lacquered and/or glazed red travertine tesserae. Travertine sometimes has bands of iron oxide running through it which can look like unoxidised copper.

Prof, that is very helpful and points me in the right direction... though red travertine seems a bit too much like marble?
Ours is very red

Thanks anyway!
You're probably right - it may not be travertine at all.

I saw some tesserae being lacquered in France a few years back and I was astonished at how the clear lacquer totally changed the shade of the original tile. In fact, they looked very much like the photograph you've posted.

I Googled Red Travertine myself last night and was surprised how much the images differed from each other. Yes, there were some that looked like marble, but I couldn't seem to find two that looked the same. It's clearly very confusing.

Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck with your quest!
