Versets. A verset is a small scrap of a verse, so I suppose it is linking it to R. L. Stevenson's a Childs Garden of Verses.

I know this fits but I don't get the specific reference to Childs Garden of Verses or to "exceptionally small"...

..so I'm not convinced!
Lines = verses. So because a verset is a very small verse it's a sort of joke, ie. an exceptionally small child would need A Child's Garden of Versets
