You should try somewhere like Calangute - its about an hour coach ride form the airport, there are plenty of beaches etc closer, but they are quite expensive, i went twice and got great deals through teletext - they tend to include transport, calangute is lively and busy but quite safe and I found that i met plenty of people to dine/socialise with. Alternatively there is Anguna beach, but the accomodation there (as far as I remember) was quite basic. All the accomodation is basic, but if you stick to a travel company you will at least get a clean bed/water etc. As someone who can't travel anymore, enjoy

dont forget you need to apply for and have a visa before you go - it is needed at check in - so you mustnt be too 'last minute'. Im only mentioning it in case you are unaware as i didnt know when we went in 2007 and had to make a last minute dash to indian embassy in london and wait until ours was issued which cost us an expensive train fare and lost days off work! and only just had time to do this before we were due to fly.
