7d Species of cartilaginous fish. The answer could so easily be either SHARK or SKATE, which are both cartilaginous and have many species. Do we toss a coin? What do the experts think? I would appreciate another view on this one before posting. Many thanks in advance.

You're right, but I think Skate is more often thought of as cartilaginous. I've gone for that.

Could be either, since Sharks, Skates, Rays, and even stranger fish make up the Chondrichthyes, or "cartilaginous fish."
Might just go for Skate as being seen as more of a Fish
BUT, Shark is perhaps better known as being cartlaginous, and has a bigger 'bite'!

I've gone for skate

The question specifies a species, so the answer should be skate, as shark describes a family of species.
