Seems that in the movie (And book) the triceratops actually does get sick from swallowing stones that are covered with some sort of LILAC.

In the book, the triceratops was played by a stegosaurus. This explains why it was sick. Stegosauruses swallowed gastroliths (rocks) to help grind up food in their stomachs. If the gastroliths were from near the lilac plants, then they could have juices on them to make it sick.
