The answer to this question has been given as either
Outwent or Outbeat, but could it also be Outfeat ?
OUTFEAT: "To surpass in feats". From Webster's 1913 Dictionary.

Difficult one this. I agree with OUTFEATS but OUTWENT from Encarta says " outdo somebody or something: to go beyond or surpass somebody or something".

Any thoughts?

I'm stumped but I think i'll go with OUTFEAT.
touigh one i agree, i cannot find outbeat and google wont accept it.
I'm starting to favour it.
OUTFEAT???? The Oxford Shorter dictionary does not have it, neither do the Oxford Crossword or Chambers. But it sounds as feasible as my first choice OUTBEAT, which isn't in any of them either. Should we have a mass vote?
It should be in the past because the clue is exceeded - outfeat sounds like the present, wouldn't it be outfeated? Outbeat of course could be past or present
outgo vt (pat outwent; pap outgone) to outstrip; to surpass; to pass or live through; to overreach. (Chambers)
It's probably to late, but try outwent.
