2d - Clue is: Some lines run under European flower - ?D?T - I think this is ADIT but if so, why? And what has "European flower" to do with it? Any help gratefully appreciated!

If it is ODER - which I admit makes more sense than ADIT - then what would you say for 14a which gives the T at the end? Clue is: Almost sneer at church soil - which I have as SMUTCH. Thanks for any further help.
