It's said being ill for a short time creates a scar (9)? Cicatrice, Cicatrise and Cicatrize all fit the bill.

Carnivore of former years at sea? (6) Bobcat ?

Sorry the first one is 'Sick a trice' (short time)

K,

If the compiler intended a homophone for "short time" then trice, trise and trize are all acceptable. If not, then you are correct, and cicatrice is the answer.

Many thanks for sorting out "bobcat" for me!

Aperio
In fact cicatrice rhymes with 'miss', and cicatrise/ize with 'size'. As neither rhyme with 'trice', then a homophone cannot have been intended.
