Why is pass col?
J
A COL is a pass between two mountain peaks.
The ?o?t answer is 'mott' rather than 'root'. The 'old' poet, Spenser used 'mott' as the past of 'mete' = measure and a mott is a clump of trees.
Quizmonster: To explain why I answered root and not mott.
I thought that the clump of trees was spelled motte.
On double checking (because of your answer) I note that it can also be spelled mott.
Sorry for any confusion.
