But first, let me offer this poser, which i've been wanting to use for several years... perhaps Q can help with the answer...

Name the Physician to the Queen, who, in 1594, was hung, drawn and quartered (al la William Wallace) for conspiracy to murder the Queen.

(The Queen was Elizabeth I, and the conspirator (some say innocent) was Roderigo Lopez. I'll leave it to you to discover why a Portuguese Jew would be involved...
Who was the first woman to be elected to the house of Commons?

NOT Nancy Astor (the first woman to take her seat in the House of Commons) but Countess Constance Markiewicz (nee Gore-Booth) who stood for Sinn Fein in December 1918 and, because of that party's policy of abstentionism from the House of Commons, did not take her seat.
Good grief, C! I failed to pass my history exam when I left school 51 years ago. What chance would I have with this question other than trawling Google? Pass!
Hi BigMac I'm glad somebody else knows of Constance Markiewicz, I'm fed up with arguing this point

I've got other less serious subjects (music, TV, movies, sport, science and geography) in the quiz too so these questions are great. A few slightly easier ones I have come up with are:

1. In what year was Margaret Thatcher appointed Prime Minister?
2. Name two of Henry VIII wives
3. Sir Winston Churchill was a leader of which Political Party?
where was the magna carter signed?
at the bottom
Actually WW2 officially ended on 12th September 1990 NOT 1989. As prev noted above, pedantic i know but if you are gonna ask a question, you gotta know the answer!
The Magna Carta wasn't signed anywhere. It was sealed by John.
