Hi all.

My missus and I have just split and we want to make a private agreement re child support (she earns much more than me) Is this acceptable to the courts or would I be forced into making regular 20% payment, 2 kids.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can make your own agreement if you both agree on the amount. I would say though not to hand over any cash. If for any reason your relationship deteriorates in the future you may need to be able to prove how much you've given her and how regularly.
These days the Court actually prefers if you make a private arrangement with regards to all aspects of chidren matters: residence, access, maintenance. If it all goes wrong in the future then the CSA or the Court would step in at the request of either party.
Two excellent replies there.

To add on to the last reply, the CSA are disbanding and will be actively encouraging both parties to arrange their maintenance privately. Only in severe cases will the CSA (or whatever oragnisation is set up) get involved.

I have had a private arrangement with my ex husband right from the word go. It has worked very well for the last 11 years. If you both agree on a figure I don't see why the court would overturn it.
