i dont know but there are many people about who could tell a few tales it is based in the laundarys of the magdalane sisters. A dissurbing part of the catholic churches history.

...and now for an answer in English. The only writing credit is for Peter Mullan so it looks like an original screenplay not an adaptation of a book.
