Line Spacing In Word.

In Word when you get to the end of a line & keep typing it continues without a space, but if use the shift key before the line has ended you get a double space as if it is a new paragraph.

I recently found a way by holding a key(s) to stop it making a double space but now can't remember how I did it.

Does anyone know please?

That sounds weird. Guessing here but usual keys to change something are control, shift, and alt. Sometimes a windows key is the one needed. Give them all a try one or more at a time.

I don't know but there is a choice at the top to the right, double space or no space.

Thanks guys. I have, following OG's system of experiment found it again; If you hold down shift & press 'enter', it only moves down a single space. I think the double space (paragraph) is the default in Word.

It is particularly annoying if you are trying to write out say, a poem, which has a lot of consecutive short lines.

That's solved that problem for me as well! Thanks all.

Same as the AB answer box.

I think you need to modify the paragraph setting. Put your cursor into a paragraph and then right click, then select paragraph. You can then change the para spacing from nothing to single or double etc. Then try hitting return to get a new para, and see if it does what you want.

If it works, then you can stay in the good para and select the wallpaper past button at the top  and them swipe the cursor accross any other paragraphs that you want to have the same properties.

A similar thing is now happening, since the new and exciting emoji facility was activated, here on the Ab. If you try to do a list or start a new line, in the answer box, you need to hold down the shift key before hitting enter. Damned nuisance it is

too.
