Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

I'm tempted to give up on this as I can see some answers but have no idea how to enter them - perhaps 1 or 2 suggestions to start me off?

I started with the across clues. Look at the length of the grid entry compared to the enumeration in the clue and that will tell you what you need to deduct. Note deductions are always same letter. So in 1a for example it seems likely the definition is "preserve" for 9 letters and the wordplay needs to yield 7 letters to fit the grid. "Wild area" looks like wordplay and gives four letters so "youth" needs to be three letters. In general Azed has made the wordplay straightforward. I hope that helps. Don't give up!

I could add that the last line of the preamble will not make sense until you uncover the quotation and locate the specific work in question.

I thought this was a very clever puzzle.
