Let them squat up there for as long as they want. They put themselves in the position so why must the rest of us put up with inconvenience while mental health workers in chequered hats stop the world?

You make the mistake of assuming that these activists are mentally unwell.

I am bipolar and you don't see me gluing myself to a road. I have more sense that that and have no wish to hack off other folk to get my message across.

They do their causes no favour by protesting in such a manner. I think that they consider themselves superior to the rest of us.

LARRY for PM - he'll swat them off the edges of the planet.

Why close the bridge? - just leave them up there until they get fed up & go home.
Davebro, It is a very tempting option. Or they could shoot them down.
I really think they need to be dealt with severely.

Send them up some hot drinks.

Laced with X-Lax.
Bucket of oil would be better TTT :-)

Not sure what part you're seeing that suggests I think they're mentally unwell, Wolf, I'm talking about the need for the forces of law and order to put the safety of morons before all else.

A night at height as the winter closes in could be a valuable lesson for our heroes.

Going forward.
Don't give them publicity.
Don't let the press interview
Make them pay for emergency services and police involved
Stop any benefits or other income they might receive
Leave them there
One has personal responsibility for care in the first instance. (Although the way society is going it looks as if the aim is to abolish this (and if at all possible, blame drivers for everything).

So yeah, why pander to them.
The problem would be Doug, if the bridge were to remain open and one of those stupid bar stewards fell off, it could endanger the lives of motorists.
I must have misunderstood your sentence "while mental health workers in chequered hats stop the world"
Decent point Ken. Maybe put up a sign saying, "proceed at one's own risk" ?

I'm pretty sure that motorists would be content to take their chances if they coud just get on with their lives.

Maybe give the climbers a cheery toot as they pass below.
I suppose it depends on who and what you are protesting about and to if you garner sympathy or not.

I remember 20 odd years ago being in the middle of people using glue to secure themselves to our desks or counters because they did not get the tax credits they thought they were owed.
