Why can't Americans learn to spell properly like wot us does?

And while we are at it, let's give away lots of clues!!
Can't say I'm bothered about the US spellings. As an aside, Suzie Dent told Countdown viewers a few weeks ago that many US spellings are the correct, original spellings. I was flabbergasted.
She talks about it here

Suck it up Barry
I forgot to do it yesterday, what was the answer?

I don't think Noah Webster was just aiming at simplicity, he was also aiming to annoy the British by sorting out their language for them.

"Defense" may be more logical than "defence" but do American houses have fenses outside them?
which letter is the U, TCL?
So what was it, please?
The answer was "VIGOR" but ours is spelt, "VIGOUR".
If you mean Saturdays it started with V ended in R and had G in it
Thank you both

I didn't solve it. American spelling can throw you off the scent.
