Anything To Be Grateful For Today
42 Answers
AB often comes across as a lot of angry and opinionated people
(Which of course it would...its made up of angry and opinionated people ;-) )
We are all angry and opinionated in one way or another...
But in way of a change, what are we grateful for today?
Personally, Im grateful for
*Having a roof over my head
*Food and clothing
*A job that I love
*Access to a forum such as this (anytime, day or night)
*My friends
*The sun (NOT THE NEWSPAPER)
*An upcoming holiday
I don't have a lot in the way of material possessions (I don't own a car/house/villa)
But I think that I am fairly grateful for what I have,
What are YOU grateful for at this moment in time?

Ten days ago I was told by my consultant he is convinced that in 18 months/ two years time I will be completely blind in both eyes, so for the time being anyway, Im grateful I can still see a little.x

I deliberately try to start each day from a point of pure pessimism.
i.e. when I wake up, I'll assume that all of my cats are dead until I see them alive. Similarly, I'll assume that a big hole has appeared in the roof of my house overnight, that someone has accused me of a crime I didn't commit, that I'm going to discover a lump in my testicles, and so on.
Then, when at least most of the things that could happen don't actually happen, I start to feel good. (I'd hate to start each day with perfect optimism. Things could only ever get worse then!)
As a more direct answer to your question though, I'm grateful for ...
my cats ;
having reasonably good health (despite having this annoying catheter in) ;
being able to remain friends with the people I think of as 'family' back in Sheffield, where I used to live ;
not being seen as 'too old to work' by the firm that occasionally gives me survey work ;
retaining the mental capacity to try to make sense of all of the innovations that younger people embrace so easily ;
and being able to bring this list to an end without feeling too bad about it ;-)

You been eavesdropping, Nailit?! I’ve never had anything handed to me on a plate but gazing at the mountains from our patio last night I said how lucky I was that my father was born in such a wonderful place. Sad that he had to leave it....must have broken his heart...but grateful he brought me here every year and that my family has welcomed me home with love and humour......and painting the house for us of course.... :-)
I dunno, Nailit, a lot of ABers aren't particularly angry; most of those who are, go to News rather than CB to vent.
Opinionated is okay, as long as you don't insist that anyone who fails to share your opinion is a moron or a traitor. I'm not terrifically grateful at the moment, as OH and I aren't in the finest of health and the house needs repairs. But we've got enough to live on, and millions haven't.

I don't understand this grateful thing. Grateful to whom? I'm very pleased to be in the situation I'm in, I'm very pleased I have a lovely family and lovely friends, I'm very pleased that I enjoy, in the main, good health, and I am very pleased to be able to do what I want to do in all sorts of areas ... but grateful? Wrong word for me.
Chris isn't unique in his outlook Anne as this variation on an old quote explains..
//“I will be the first to admit that I am a pessimist by nature. It is, after all, the wisest way to be. We pessimists have everything to gain, whereas optimists have a fifty-fifty chance of being disappointed.” //

I'm thankful that the plane that carried my friend back from Orlando did so safely.
I'm thankful, too, that the minibus that transported him from the airport to Burnley yesterday did likewise.
I'm thankful that he wasn't too jet-lagged to pop in and see me earlier this evening.
And i was even more thankful when he paid me for decorating his house while he was away :-)
