Good morning most venerable physician. I am after your opinion again. As you may recall ( or not) I have had quite a bad cold since before Christmas, I feel much better now , albeit a bit tired, but that I put down to work, age etc. my question is, after such a long time should I still have mucus and now and then a mild coughing fit ? I am washing my nose out every morning and the mucus is mostly transparent now. But I find myself having to " clear" my throat quite often. Waddy fink?
Indeed, I remember your case well, but you must remember that your nose will never be "the best behaved nose" and will always, "play you up" ..like a spoiled child ;-).
Yes, you did have nasal discharge, but the operation was performed mainly to improve your nasal airway (to allow you to breath up your nose) and that is what it has achieved. Colds and catarrh will always linger to a certain extent.
I started a sort of cold in September last year, while we were on holiday in Croatia. The cold never really came out, but a cough developed and just went on and on and on. At one point, I had taken so much cough linctus (forgotten which one) that it was having a really nasty effect at my other end (don't ask!). Went to see the doc and she gave me a form to take to the local hospital for a chest Xray, but I never went because the cough started to go. The cough didn't actually finally go until over the Christmas holidays .... So I was stuck with it for the best part of 3 months ..... thankfully all okay now .....
