Spam In A Can - What's The Secret?

I have recently rediscovered my fondness for Spam - the meat variety (although some may disagree), not the dodgy e-mails. However, after twice nearly giving myself a hernia or popping out my eyeballs, I again have failed to squeeze the damned substance out of its metal shell.

Does anyone have a foolproof (or, at least, mostly successful) way of getting Spam out of the can in one solid block that I can slice and grill?

Open both ends and push through - chill the can first.
Can you open both ends and push it out?
Short answer - take the other end off the can and push down/out.

Long answer - (If it's like a tin of Corned Beef) I used to put a Knife about halfway up between the Meat and the Tin and then angle it inside the Meat and use the outside of the tin and lever the Meat out that way.
I seem to remember my mum running a knife around the inside of the tin then easing the Spam out with both thumbs. I seemed to work.
......having taken the top and bottom off.
Half an hour ago I opened a can of corned beef,always open both ends.

Problem with trying to open the other end is its shape - my tin opener won't do the corners. I might try a hammer and a flat-end screwdriver for them :-)
I understand what you're trying to do but, since an unfortunate encounter with a Spam fritter in the 1960s, my advice would be buy it then throw it straight in the bin.
Less grief all round.

Or

Open the can at the wide end, break the fatty seal all round with a long knife the stick a fork in dead centre to wiggle and tease it out.

What a lot of faffing about!! Just buy a proper can opener.
I'd do it the Douglas way if the can opener wasn't doing it.

I eat Spam frequently. I squeeze the can short-sides to push out the long sides and then stick a broad-bladed knife diagonally and just pull out the meat.

As Mamy says, still a load of faff, but I may try 'Chico's video tip next time. How come they don't have that key-'n'-strip that other tinned meat used to?
