Apathy

I used to be very good at self-motivation when I was self-employed. Since I retired I can't be %rsed to do anything except watch TV and read. Any of you ever feel like this? And is there an antidote?

having something you actually want to do with your time helps. I've spent a lot of time travelling and working on family history; OH has spent a lot of time gardening. Do you have hobbies or interests? Could you undertake some sort of voluntary work?

Reading and watching TV isn't all that bad, but you have got time to do other things if you want to.

But I already have a wife and a dog! And yes, I forgot walking the dog. I do get around to that.

Good nutrition is key to feeling energetic and well, then get outside and have a nice long walk. ,you will feel all the better for it.

I suffer badly from apathy too, but mine is a side effect of my condition. I literally do naff all from when I get up to when I go to bed. I hate being that way but literally can't help it. And I have a wife, three grown dogs and a puppy.

How long have you been retired? Everyone I know who has retired, including me has had a period of happy inertia. I remember my mother being very worried when my Big Sis retired because she didn't want to do much except kick back. It does seem to pass and your mojo returns.

My day is a bit Iffy since I packed up employing myself (end June) my OH tells me I've had no interest in anything since I had Major Surgery mid 2009, all I do is walk Dogs, enjoy that, they're so happy, read Papers, Crosswords etc. She said I'd like to go to Canada, I said do it, off she went to Toronto, then she said I'd like to go to Madrid, you know the rest!

About two years, woofgang. But I think this apathy thing is getting worse, not just a brief period of inertia.

Agree with woof - there is a period of inertia. What did you used to be interested in? Perhaps as a child you liked painting and enjoyed poems. Now is your chance. Been there, wish I were there again because life closes in with nurses, doctors etc. Do something while you can! I write (and have had a couple of short stories published -over 6 years!).
