Twig?
Spur ?

Slip ?
Sion
I think 1a is skip - hence sion??
Could also be 'Sien' or 'Syen' - both Shakespearean versions of 'scion'
Actually lie-king. Think Shen is probably correct as 4a is 'cry of grief, which would then by 'yo' not 'io' which is what I had!! Didn't think that made much sense
Question Author
Thank you all, I have gone for "sion" which fits in with what I have.
However 4a. Cry of grief works out as "io" do you think that is correct. A bit dim today, blame it on the weather.
Sorry meant syen
Could "cry of grief" be 'Wo' (archaic version of "woe") (?)
I can't find 'Sion' working as "offshoot"...
Unless 1d is shin which would give you ho for cry of grief!! We'll have to wait and see what the answer is tomorrow - ho ho!!
sien [shakespearian] alternative spelling of scion

4a] io -both in my 11th edition chambers!
oops noticed L-I-k already suggested these.^^
Cupes is right - for some reason I missed 'io' in Chambers - must take more mixer with it :-)
Blimey - what a puzzle - must remember to check it out tomorrow. Thanks cupid04
