absolutely agree on both counts
Well it is Petulant -  (Petula Clark - Downtown fame) but not sure how how the nt relates to "needs boots"....

BazLegg: I'm not sure why boots equals nt either, but I agree, PETULANT seems to be the most appropriate answer.

kev100: After Googling the clue, I've discovered another ref to that question on this forum that suggests that the answer is COGNATE. Which makes sense as cognate means "related to". Runner = coe, containing bug = gnat.

Thanks for the help guys. I hope I can return the favour some time. :)

I like it honeythief, my runner came from a fell running team called the hornets.

Is the first one definitely ".......needs boots........."?  If it was "books" it would be NT = New Testament.

Well caught mike1222! :) It is indeed "books" not "boots". *embarrassed* I think a trip to the optician is called for. *lol* I'd better put my glasses on before I attempt to tackle no. 27. *g*

And credit for suggesting COGNATE should go to crofter. Thanks crofter. :D
