I think it is grapes. You can eat them and they are grapes, or dry them and they are sultanas or raisins, then you can rot them down and they are wine, boil that up and it is brandy, eat the leaves and stuff rice in it and its dolmades. Yummy yummy what a great plant it is?

Goodness me d2t, I had never thought of all those possibilities. A truly versatile plant. I think I would go with palm. Oil, sugar, leaves for plates or building, wood also for building, dates for eating.

I would say at a guess it is pineapples. You can drink the juice of them and eat them on their own. They also have other medical properties which are not suitable to mention on a family website!

Scrummy, I didn't say it was PC, I said it was useful. It is not the palm which is ruining the habitat it is the greedy blighters burning down the forests to grow more for us greed first worlders.

Tempted to agree with Sir Alec re cheese, but I think I'd opt for onions as they are so versatile and can make all sorts of bland stuff palatable. But then again, maybe bread.....
