"A German turned up with this French relative" M-E-E (I think!)

I'm guessing that the French relative is Mere but I can't crack this one. Can anyone help?

Niece
NIECE = 'ein' [A in German] reversed + 'ce' ['this' in French]

A German=ein (reversed) + ce (french for this)
People saying renumerate = one of my all-time pet hates!
