Sean Connery has an Edinburgh accent, which makes him pronounce some syllables in an unusual manner. If you pronounce 'mesh' as 'mess', you get a word that means a dining room in a military place.

As someone who lives close to Edinburgh, i think Connery's pronunciation is more due to a slight lisp rather than any geography
