I'm just watching One Born Every Minute and I was wondering what would happen if the fire alarm went off during the last push? Would they just stay and deliver the baby or tell her to stop so they can evacuate?! haha!
I'd have thought there would be wheels on the beds? Maybe they can wheel them out (or at least to a safer place) if too dangerous to stay and safe to do so. I guess there must be some kind of policy in place - for operations and such too.
Depends where the fire alarm is. If it's intermittent then it's probably not very close and your fire doors buy you an extra hour (maybe 2 actually) so you would just crack on. It's a real pain to evacuate an entire hospital, especially areas like neonates, intensive care and theatres so our fire doors are pretty useful and you actually will move people further and further behind the doors before it gets to the point where you have to start shifting them; and then it's a whole other process... provided some hasn't shoved a fire extinguisher next to the door to keep them open, then they're useless :c)
there are very strict guidelines for evacuating hospitals - far too complicated to describe in detail here. but yes, if there was a fire in that particular zone of the hospital you would have to cart people out as is. x
Never thought about the bed with wheels!! What a pleb!
I'm sure this one woman was on the floor though... what a pain having to get up and manoeuvre onto a bed! I don't fancy this pregnancy malarkey at all.... :|
china doll gives a good bash at explaining it! but when the alarms go off, you Sugar yourself. i've been on duty twice and had to evacuate a secure psych ward after people have set fires in the building. the last one was at 1am!!!! not funny at the time and an absolute bitch to sort out! x
Hc you romantic you! Pregnancy can be fun Erin, especially the bit where you're sitting doing pretty much nothing and your stomach moves all on it's own - just like Alien............
Erin, you and my daughter have got to stop watching this programme. Everytime she watches it I get the third degree, honestly the things she asks! Seriously though, it's not that bad I actually felt empty when the baby was born, I'd become so used to the little person inside me that I missed her - besides she was much quieter on the inside! ;)
