I cant remember if I've posted about this before but for several years now I've been getting nose infections. At the moment this one started on Fri as just a tiny red sore patch under my nostril following a bad cold. I know the isgns of it so I immediately used the antibiotic cream from last time. By the afternoon it had quickly grown in size and got more painful and by Sat it is horrible in apperance and goes crusty and yellow! Nice I know lol. So this morning its even worse and my whole nose is swollen and extremly sore to touch so I've now been put on oral antibiotics too.
I would say I get them every few months or so and it does seem to be when I'm run down. It can be right up in the nostril, either one or both sides or like it is now just on the outside bit. I've never had a diagnosis before but the GP said its probably herpes or a staph infection?
So does anyone suffer the same? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this and should I get it diagnosed exactly what it is?

Your GP is correct......nasal vestibulitis......a staph infection.
That is an exact diagnosis.
No nothing can be done to prevent re-occurrence except to use the cream (antibiotic) completely, even after the lesion has disappeared.
Tigwig, could it be impetigo? I had that when I was a child - your description matches exactly what I remember. http://www.nhs.uk/con...ges/Introduction.aspx

Go back to your GP and see what he says.
^ sqad wasn't there just now!
It sounds like herpes, or what is commonly called a cold sore. I have suffered from them for years, and also get them on my lip. As soon as you feel a tingling sensation you should apply ZOVIRAX cream which will either stop it developing into a full blown sore, or will shorten its duration. You can buy it in the chemist or have a prescription from your GP. It's expensive to buy as it comes in a tiny tube. Hope you feel better soon.

So I'm still confused! Is it herpes or staph? I guess it could only be confirmed by a swab? Anyway looks like I will just have to keep on suffering and look like a freak lol.
Tigwig, nip down to the chemist tomorrow and show it to the pharmacist - they can probably prescribe something OTC if you are already on antibiotics.
if it's herpes, ab cream wont help
Zovirax cream contains 5% w/w aciclovir and is an antiviral cream to be used on oral herpes, herpes simplex virus - cold sore. It comes in a 2g. tube and is made by Glaxo Smith Kline.
........been thinking...........perhaps K9's diagnosis is better than mine.

One needs to see the lesions at the start.....if they are vesicles (fluid filled blebs) then herpes is the most likely, but if they are sores that scab, the staph nasal vestibulitis is the likely cause.

They are very sore red bits that do scab yellow. By the way is it normal to feel ill with it too? Not deathly ill or anything but I just dont feel right and my glands ache and the constant running nose doesnt help!
"Red bits that scab".....sounds more like staph infection.

yes it may make you feel "under the weather" and I presume that you are referring to your neck glands and that also would favour a staph infection.

Thanks then everyone, it must be staph then. I feel a little better today and its reducing now thankfully.
