Help with crossword solution please

Am not totally convinced about the following clue's solution..

Clue: Playing together, show disapproval over appeal.

Solution: tutti.

I get "tutti" meaning altogether and "tut" being the disapproval bit....but where does the "appeal" come into it ?

Any observations/comments would be appreciated - thanks.
