Help please.... Last 2 for me!

2 d (2 words 2, 7) -o/-e-g--g. "What solicitors do to remain available?" [I thought it may be 'Go begging' but why?]
and
21 a (6) -u-c-e. "Might Frenchman have cryptic clues?" [I thought it was 'Quiche' but, again, why?]

M (Monsieur) * anag (cryptic) CLUES = MUSCLE
Oldred - heard that 21a answer was "muscle" but cannot understand why. Can you tell me please?
