I have a decree from the Croft that my official title will be “The Regal Roslyn” and who am I to contradict!

May I begin by wishing everyone a “Happy & Prosperous 2010”! As you may well have heard, crofter has just won the Crossword known as Enigmatic Variations so the year starts off well for him, at least. As he has already guessed from my username, I was born on Christmas Day 1955. This usually means that Birthday presents and Christmas presents merge into one!

Basically, I’m a Lancashire lass, born in Preston and grew up in the small villages of Grimsargh and Whitechapel before leaving for Leeds University in 1973. For the past 32 years, Derbyshire has been our home, however “You can take the lass out of Lancashire, but you can’t take Lancashire out of the lass” is often true!

My career path was decided from a very early age, since after my first day at school I announced I wanted to be a teacher – and I never changed my mind. In due course, I passed the 11+ and went to a Girls’ Grammar School, where mathematics was always my favourite subject. I had my first impromptu teaching experience in those days with my fellow classmates. Like many others, we had a very poor maths teacher and consequently, I was often called upon for help to explain the latest homework! I still look at 2010 and think “What a tidy number”!

Sadness struck for me at age 13, when my mum died. To an extent, Time is a healer, but I still miss her so much now and wish she could have seen me grow up. She would have been so proud that I was the first in the family to go to university. At 18, I was off to Leeds University for 4 years, where I studied maths and then did my PGCE by which I hoped to be able to teach well my difficult subject of choice.

Of course, once I moved on from an all-girl learning environment, I soon realised that there was more to life than Simultaneous Equations! I met fellow student, John, whom I would eventually marry. He was sponsored by Courtaulds, who gave him a job in Derbyshire when he graduated. This explains my relocation, where I secured a teaching post and our life in Derbyshire began.

Down to the business in hand! As far as my MM links are concerned, needless to say, I shall follow the rule on word length adopted by crofter. Each of my words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter shall disclose my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past.

My first set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
Good morning Roslyn. I hope I can do better with your links than I have done over last few weeks!!! Was in Derbyshire last weekend and my family originate from there. (Belper) . My granddaughters birthday is Christmas Eve so she has an unbirthday on June 24th.
Got to be something to do with numbers then. Problem is, what? :0)
Could your links be something to do with numbers???
I think we've got her number Kay!!!
