Hi, I don't get on here very often [so no-one probably remembers me ;O}] But thought I'd introduce you to Sam! Sam is a rescue Great Dane and it looks like he's found his forever home here with us!!!! I already have Lola [20 months].....and they have become the best of friends in the three weeks he's been with us. He's 11 months old, pure black and a little on the skinny side....but we're working on that! He's an absolute babe!!! http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=773aa9ac0 698ad9b82b727&skin_id=601&utm_source=otm&utm_m edium=text_url

They do love each other....honest...lol

I am glad that Sam has settled in and is happy. He is a lovely looking dog and seems to have found a playmate in Lola.

Best wishes to all of you - and I hope that Santa is good to Sam.
Hi Lisa, I remember your name, good to see you back, he looks a brilliant dog, he also looks very happy, so rewarding to get a rescue dog, I am sure you will have many years of great times, we had a rescue german shepherd, it took her about a year to really settle, she had had some real tough times, beatings etc, but once she did she was the most loving faithful friend you could ask for, she followed me everywhere and would have died for me, miss her so much,

Enjoy your new friend, he will soon put a bit of weight on, Ray xx
I do remember you divegirl. What fab pictures of your two, you can see they get on really well. I love Great Danes, such handsome dogs but they would fill our house to bursting lol

Well with 2 Danes....3 Yorkies and 2 cats....and a living room that looks like a rugby pitch we're pretty full :O}.....wouldn't have it any other way though!!!!

I'm lucky with Sam...he doesn't really have a 'past'.... His owner couldn't keep him due to ill health....the rescue kept him for 5 months in the hope that they could be re-united, but it was decided that he needed a forever home before being kept at the rescue affected his temperament. We did have a few dominance issues...but with the help of a brilliant behaviourist [sp],things were sorted within 24 hrs!!!! Lola won btw!!!!! lol
He is the kindest most loving boy I have ever met....and before leaving rescue was trained to the max!!!!!
Total recall, sits, stays, down on command......now all he has to do is to teach Lola to do the same....pmsl....some chance!!!!
Thank you for your kind words

Thank you for making me smile on what is a sh1t day for me. Your dogs are wonderful. I have 2 labs - do danes need about the same exercise as them? Also do you insure them or 'pay as you go'?
Question Author
Hi Annie,
Lola has hip dysplasia....so with that and Sams need to put on weight, I don't over exercise them. They're walked twice a day...about 30 mins off lead each time....hopefully by next spring I'll be able to make the walks longer [as Sam puts on his weight and we get Lola's condition under control]. They are both insured...I pay 42 pm [for the 2 of them], but get most of that back in Lol's meds for her HD.
Most of my time is spent with 'loving and fussing' them! Danes are extremely family orientated. Lola doesn't greet anyone outside of the house....but needs lots of love at home! Sam loves kids....and will make a bee-line to them when we're out....luckily most kids think he's great....and he's just about learned to sit and wait for attention on walks.
They are a fantastic breed to be owned by....but do take up a hell of a lot of time....but like I said.....wouldn't have it any other way!

Hi BM, I live right on the edge of Epping Forest [1 minute from my house] in Essex, so the dogs are walked in the forest every day......in the rain and the snow and the mud....it's just greatt!!!!!!

Thank you. We are due to move next year and a large garden will be a priority. We will also be very near a beach. You have given us food for thought.
