Clue - Prise off a former name in the Middle East (7)
?E?D?U? The number of letters is 7 and the D and U are definitely correct. I have had a few suggestions of `Persia` but obviously this is not the correct answer. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

Persia fits the clue perfectly - there is always the possibility that the wrong clue has been printed.

the answer should be persian - 7 letters.
You have forgotten the letter n for name
