Sore Throat

Afternoon All,

My throat is absolutely killing me and is making me miserable. I'm supposed to be going out this evening to a friends 'I'm leaving to go to Auzzie Land' forever parties' so I really should go.

Does anyone have any soothing rememdies or quick fixes to get me through the night at least please? (I've tried garggling with TCP, Soothers and paracetamol).

you can get antiseptic sprays which are quite good for sore throats. Pop into your local chemist and ask.

Other than that, hot honey and lemon soothes a bit

How do you Gargle with a Soother and paracetamol?

How about refraining from talking at the party? You could get round this by wearing a big sandwich board round your neck and writing all your messages on it.

On a serious note though- go easy on the painkillers if you're going to be drinking!

You should go to the doc, it could be an infection that needs antibiotics.

Honey is good, you can try with warm milk (or hot whiskey!).

Alternatively, go to the party, drink loads and you won't feel the pain anymore! lol

Awww China, I really feel for you. I used to get colds 2 or 3 times a year and they'd always start off with a really nasty sore throat. I now use Vicks First Defence as soon as I feel my throat going funny. Other than that I've been told that garggling with salty water helps. Haven't tried it myself though.

There used to be a tablet called Dequidin (or something like that) which was an anti bacterial throat sweet and which also numbed the throat. Enjoy the party!

If you havent started already on medication -try a hot toddy -it really does work -you dont have to go mad on the whisky (but it helps) -I have loads of honey lemon and of course a dash of whisky -works everytime.

Thats just a temporary measure to get you over tonight -sometimes best to get to your GP in case its one of those 'strep' throats.They are wretched and have to be treated -only ever had one and I couldnt even swallow cos the pain jagged into my ear as well.

Aww hope you feel better soon -thats a few got a bug now cos Dot has a sore throat as well -so far so good up here -doesnt seem to many bugs going about -probably too damned cold.

Hello China, an old gypsy recipe, get half of an onion, place it on a saucer cover it with brown sugar and let the sugar dissolve over the onion, cover it with a cup or similar and leave till it makes a juice, take a spoonful of the juice whenver you need to, it even tastes nice, take care lady xx

Get some Chloraseptic spray from the chemist or Boots own brand Anaesthetic Throat Spray to tide you over and as a preventative measure you might want to stop practicing your balloon tricks.

Oh sweets , I feel sorry for you , you must feel as though you are swallowing razor blades . I do hope you can get something already suggested to ease it as it must be making you feel awful generally :-) xxxxxxx

Hi China, ditto the sore throat i still don;t have a voice after trying all sorts in the last 3 hours!!!!!!! My head was bad too but the paracetamol seems to have cleared that up, but i have started with earache now, I tried gargling with salt water before and it was a bit of a help, waiting for son to get back from the chemist with an antiseptic mouth wash.

I suggest you just lie down and let it take it's course, that's what i have been doing, dogs keep pestering me though grrrr they want to go for a walk cos I am home!

Sounds like the same thing as me Dotty. The head cold bit seems ok but the throat is just out of this world.

Plus Ray just got me in trouble... Apparently 'food is not for playing with'.... I got told to take normal remmedies like everyone else!
