Hello
Can anyone help me please? A friend has sent me an attachment to an e mail.(outlook express). When I try and open it I get a message 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel'
How do I do that please? I can't even find the folder options control panel.

What is the name of the file (the extension is the important part) ?

So if it was called FRED.DOC the DOC is the important part because Windows knows to open this with Word.

The extension of your file is unknown to Windows so it does not know what to do with it.

Give us the 3 character extension and we can help you.

Hi vhg
Thanks. The 3 letters on the end are xls.
In that case chompu it's an excel file. Find the file, don't left click to open it but right click on it and you will get a drop down menu. Click on 'open with' and you will get another drop down menu. Scroll down and click on Microsoft Excel. The file will then open. This is assuming that you have Excel installed on your computer of course.
If you have not got Excel on your PC then you can download a free Excel viewer from Microsoft.

Search for "Excel viewer" in Google.

Thanks for your answers Aprilis and Vhg. I'll give it a go. I haven't really moved on since my Spectrum days. Thanks again.
