LEGAL QUESTION - Community Service 200 hours!

My now non friend has been given 200 hours community service, which she accidently told me when drunk, but will not tell me why, as she said it will change the way I feel about her.

I don't believe she would shoplift, she is very anti-drugs and too quiet to get in a fight, but has had money problems, what do you think would merit 200 hours community service when she has never been in trouble ever before? (I think 200 hours is loads)

I have also told her I will not be around her anymore until she has told me, as I have a child and she still refuses to say.

Have already posted this in wrong category if already been read.

Maybe fraud if you say she has money problems ?

I have no idea what would warrant 200 C/S hours, but I do know that if it were me, I wouldn't want anything to do with her - 'specially knowing you have a child to protect. (Not saying that it is child connected, but I think you get my drift).

It must be pretty bad to warrant not being given a suspended sentence instead & until she does confess, I'd keep your distance!

Prostitution?
Whatever it is she's obviously too ashamed to tell you. But if it does turn out to be fraud (as per peterd), she may very well be full of remorse & hopefully wouldn't cause any harm to you or your child.
i think she is embarrass to tell you, and also she knows you will be angry with her. i would definately keep the child away, and not speak to her until she shed some light.

Thank you so much for your replies. You have confirmed for me that I am doing the right thing in not seeing her.

I have been very good friends with her since school and I'm 32 now, so that's why I am having such trouble getting to grips with it, I did think prositution myself, but just couldn't imagine her doing it and she works for a council so stealing or anything child related I'm sure they would report to her work.

Surely if you were that good a friend you would be trying to support her rather than distance yourself from her.

She has committed a crime, she is paying the penalty for that crime which obviously can't have been that serious to warrant only 200 hours community service (which in terms of CS is not that big a sentence) She is obviously having troubles with things so instead of judging her why not just be her friend and then if she feels comfortable enough she would tell you what happened.

Have you checked in your local paper at the court reports. It may have a report in there.
my ex got community service for assault and it was nowhere near 200 hrs - that seems an awful lot.Have you only discussed it with her when she was drunk,or have you mentioned it since?

I understand what you are saying Gevs, but as madham says, they have been friends for many years, so surely, if she values their friendship, she should come clean.

However, I did say she's probably full of remorse & may very well confess when she feels the time is right.

Why dont you say to her that because she wont tell you ,you are thinking the worst, which it probably isnt, and that if she tells you then you will listen as to why she did whatever it is.

If that makes any sense!!

Thank you Gev1996, but I have sat down numerous times and asked her, but she point blank refuses to say. I actually work in classified advertising at my local newspaper, If I had a quiet word with a reporter I'm sure I could find out, but it's principal - she must feel she can trust me enough to tell me herself.

Also, I am hopefully joining Police Service within next 2/3 years. So it was an important but very difficult decision for me to take.

You've just jogged my memory madham - my son-in-law works for Beds Police, so p'raps I can ask him for some ideas tonight.

You've got me wondering too now!

Thanks Smudge, I have known about this for about 2 months and it has given me many a sleepless night as well as being very curious.
This sounds awful - but my boyfriend works at a certain Police Headquarters and if he had a certain persons name and address he could look them up!
Depending on which county you live in.

I couldn't put her details on here though!

You're welcome madham.

Try not to worry & sleep better knowing you've shared it.
