I used to enjoy this series, the weird and wonderful (and pointless and awful) inventions.  I'm sure I bought a camera after seeing it featured on this show - Kodak Disk, it didn't really catch on.

I would like somebody to invent a silent vacuum cleaner (a carpet sweeper sucks) but my biggest dream would be to stand in my living room with my luggage, close my eyes and magically transport to my hotel room in Australia.

What inventions would you appreciate?

I've had an idea for one particular item. I've thought for a long time how I could get it to work. It would be of great benefit to everyone and I'm sure everyone would want one. It's something that everyone would use more than once a day, but not being an engineer or designer, it just stays in my head. Hey ho! 💫

You must tell us, 10C.

I'm a bit reluctatnt to do that barry because once I do, everyone will know the idea and might nick it. But if some clever, knowledgeable person wants to start it off, let me know!

I'm intrigued, it's a shame getting an idea patented is so complicated and potentially expensive although I can see that allowing anyone to patent an idea would stifle progress

In fairness, there are a number of things out there that do this job, but they are all seperate. I want to incorporate them all into one device. I think it's achievable but I don't have the knowhow, just the idea.

A job we all do every day.  A shower that automatically washes, dries and moisturises?

//A job we all do every day//

Shower every day? 😂😂😂😂

Question Author

I have at least two showers a day and it is a job. Getting in the shower with him is the easiest way to keep my oldster clean.  Don't be alarmed, trunks are worn (by me) which he finds to be a source of great hilarity

If we're going for impossible things, I need a button I can press that automatically transports me to bed from the sofa, teeth brushed and in pjs. I get a lot of fatigue that just happens with no warning and sometimes it's harder than working all day just to get to bed

"but my biggest dream would be to stand in my living room with my luggage, close my eyes and magically transport to my hotel room in Australia." - sadly the Heisenberg uncertaintly principle prevents any sort of matter transference. Fortunately the Star ship Enterprise has "Heisenberg compensators" 😊

Wasn't that a repeat storyline in Star Trek, transporter malfunction leaving the traveller in a scrambled state "out there".

I've never been a Star Trek fan

Douglas Adams invented the "Infinite Improbabilty Drive" however the destinations seemed rather haphazard!

I know the Japs have public ones but I think a domestic self-cleaning WC would be nice.

I'm able to flush ours.

My invention is children's toy windmills on the underside of planes that are used to spin the wheels before they hit the runway. It would save a lot of tyre wear.

OK, it needs some work.

A device to stop cats scratching furniture would be a best seller.

I don't know if they are still there but Birmingham had a few self cleaning public toilets.  Single cubicles, the door automatically sprung open after a set time and when you left the door locked and the whole floor and toilet would be jet washed.

I can't envision your idea, Hopkirk.
