I wouldn't be over duly worried about it.Just think of the Sapper who has to defuse it and render it harmless, although it would probably be Royal Navy bomb disposal  in your area. Just a precaution for the civvies en route.

It's still a bit unnerving. I was planning on going into the city centre but buses are being diverted. I'm about a mile from the torpoint ferry.

Not an occurrence an American would experience really is it Pasta except cunning little Japanese incendiary devices drifting on balloons and landing on U.S. shores.They reckon there are still thousands of UXBs in the Thames. More so in Germany thanks to the USAAF and the RAF.

UXB. It was actually quite near to HMS Drake. My friend, who lives close by, is maintaining a stiff upper lip whilst playing Vera Lynn songs.

The American Luftwaffe dropped more on their own men than on the Germans.

That's the spirit.

My late mother in law told me tgat as an American, I was spoiled. It took a while for me to realise the truth of that.

I've just read that the bomb will be taken out to sea and detonated. More people are being asked to leave the area of the transport route.

10clarion...is your friend staying put, as some are doing?

I often wonder if there are still WW2 mines floating round the worlds' oceans. I'll bet there's a few!

My dear old mum was walking down Knightsbridge on way to her 'War work' in Earls Court when she looked over shoulder and saw a V.1 doodlebug chasing her after the engine had cut out. She ducked into a doorway and it crashed and exploded almost on the Albert Hall.

Another time during the blitz she was a projectionist at the Odeon at the top of Earls Court Road. An air raid alert was sounded and she had to stop the film and post the alert on the screen. All the patrons booed and stayed put. She had arranged to meet her old war workers from a previous job in Lyons Corner House after her shift finished at about nine p.m.. Because of the raid she had to re-commence the film when the 'All Clear' was sounded and was running late to meet her group of girl friends.After the film finished she had to stop and rewind the several spools of film. When she eventually arrived at Lyons she saw it had received a direct hit in the air raid and all her friends were killed.

Pasta, were you evacuated and are you home safe now ?

Bloomin eck - you would be jumping out of your skin several times a day in Gaza or Ukraine & with more more reason. Were's your stiff upper lip? (I know - above your soft wobbly chin.)

I remember a bomb being found where I used to live.  Only trouble was I missed the excitement as we were on holiday!

Also, about a mile away there is a bit of ground that used to have a warning sign about it being a war defence area and not to pick up anything!

Question Author

Anne...no, I wasn't. But with the most recent extension of the evacuation zone, I was only a few dozen metres from it.

The bomb was transported by water...and I'm about a quarter of a mile from that...so that meant the cordon was quite close

Thanks for asking.

Pasta is the idea still being they will detonate at sea?

Keep us up to date about how it goes.

Detonate at sea.

Not a good day to be a fish

~~~~~>)))))):>
its nice to know those alert things work!  i remember peeps on here turning their phones off when it was practiced
Question Author
Yes Barsel...the last report I saw stated that it had been taken out to sea and will be detonated tonight or tomorrow morning. I wonder if it will be audible...its only 14 metres below the surface.
It all must be such a relief for those who were evacuated early on.
Quite scary when you think about it.
You never know where those pesky bombs might be.
