I think it is bead rather than bend - but I am not sure!

Bed around "a" is the parsing

but definition corner?

to corner something  / to take a bead on ??

There is a "corner bead"

corner bead

noun

a bead having a quirk on each side and worked on or fixed to the angle of any architectural work especially for protecting an angle of a wall

Question Author

Yes, I was thinking about bead, but couldn't see how it related to corner, may have to toss a coin on this one!

I would go for bead because as you said, there's no cryptic/wordplay for the n

BEND

Place to sleep = BED

Around a corner could also refer to U-bend. Around a bend could be inferring reversing the U into N (lower case n).

Therefore BEND.

The BEAD answer doesn't scan with this magazines usual crossword style (usually all things related to walking and places etc). So I suspect BEND would be more suited to it's usual style than a super cryptic clue referring to any sort of bead or any dictionary description of bead.

I could be wrong but just saying
