This article interested me, being rather an apposite example of the inferior status of the fairer sex which even in these "modern" times still permeates our culture.

It comments on the "coincidence" of three cases recently receiving publicity (Lewinsky, Roos, and Baillie) - odd that  they should all three be regurgitated at about the same time although all well in the past.

You've still got an uphill task Ladies, but don't despair, we've come a long way in the last 123 years.

Interesting point, canary. Is it a symptom of male dominated media?

I don't think it's an odd coincidence.  The interest in Roos is due to the Beckham documentary and Baillie is because of the Brand scandal, both current events.

I don't know why Lewinsky is back in the news but are any of these women considered to be slots? Maybe by The Guardian, not by me.  Baillie in particular was viewed as a victim, with sympathy in the main.

Yes, Zacs, I think you're right.

Question Author

Quite correct, Barry, lots of us don't regard them as sluts, just the Mucky Media.

Minds you, women can be very ***.

Fgs female dog, rhymes with twitchy

Question Author

So can men

Oh indeed. But my point was, if we had a female dominated media, would anything change?

Question Author

Hard to tell, possibly not.

Those that believe it exists are doomed to experience it wherever they look.

No one is a slut because they indulged in a little sexual activity. It is a word reserved for someone who many casual sexual partners as habit/practice. Something that suggests they have an underlying problem that needs tackling.

OG, you forgot to mention it is reserved for women.  Men who have many sexual partners are 'studs'.

Slut is a word that should be banished.  People can have consensual sex with as many people as they like.

Well that's very gracious of you Barry

The morals of a dancing-master and the manners of a ***.

A male lothario, also known as a dog, a slapper,  exists today in abundance.

I have never heard a man called a slapper.  'He's a bit of a dog' always seems to be said with a nudge and a leer, as if it is an admirable thing.

Whereas it is considered a huge insult to refer to a woman as a 'dog'.

Both sexes can be looked down on if indulging with many partners rather than building a single relationship. If women seem more affected than men it is probably the result of social norms where one has to be very persuasive and socially expert to convince one woman to join them, let alone a different one each night; which impresses others as to how he manages it; whereas a women simply needs to pick a partner for the night and indicate she is willing in order to score, which isn't seen as very difficult.

And she can always change her mind, even years later.

'He's a bit of a dog' always seems to be said with a nudge and a leer,

has no one on AB heard of dogging? - not something I might boast about - er if I were young enough to do it.

Queen Elizabeth ( I'll let you guess which one) called Drake " a gay dog" - er 1590 that is! and I dont think she meant " he whistleth the live-long day". The night ed of AB has just assured me that such comments are far beyond the scope of over 68% of AB

thank god someone tole me who the last two were.

Little known factoid - you know that two of the three mentioned, the wronged spouses belted ( smacked  across the mouf, you know hooter) the men responsbile

Hillary Clinton and Victoria beckham.

I think it would be better to compare whoever shook the label off. Camilla did, Leddy Hamilton ( you know, Nelson's bit onthe side) didnt - Anne Boleyn ( The King's Botch) is remembered for other things. Sophia Dorothea just had one ( Konigsmark) but more than once a night....

The term 'slut' is very attractive to some men. It means a woman who finds sexual activity rather delightful, a bit like men do. Sadly, there is a bit of a lack of such goddesses. Not surprising, as women often prefer reliable child rearers and faithful chaps who keep the money flowing in.
