I think many people outside Ireland don't understand the enormous love and respect which Sinéad O'Connor inspired from the people of Ireland.

She wasn't perfect, but her raw honesty and passion trancended everything else - she helped make Ireland a better and more tolerant place.

RIP Sinéad

Thanks JimF. Two more excellent songs.
When "Nothing Compares 2 U" came out, I was going through exactly the same as the lyrics in the song were describing. Sinéad's version of the Prince classic helped me a lot...

She seemed like an obnoxious person to me, outwith her music.
Until watching last night’s BBC news I hadn’t realised that she’d converted to Islam. She seemed a troubled soul.
Excellent post dave.
There is an excellent documentary which you may get on catch up I think bbc tv . Very interesting .
Nothing compares 2 U is a classic but I always favoured Mandinka, good call Jim. That said I'm not that familiar with her other works.
Here's a song by another Irish singer, which I heard for the first time the other day, I hadn't heard of Lisa O'Neill before. You wouldn't say she has a beautiful voice, but something about this song stopped me in my tracks and has haunted me ever since.
At rest now, dear Sinead.
She was a troubled soul in troubled world. I admired her for her passion, bravery and her beautiful voice.
I will search through her songs and put one up a bit later.

she sure was. Loathed the English who were her main market, and fed her.

was gonna burn the American FLag onstage ( the flag of the land of the free etc) and was told she wd be deported ( a la meghan, hustled to an airport and put on a plane),
so settled on a photo of the pope

was ordained a priest ( leddy priest of course) in one of the Latin rite offshoots of the Church of Rome ( excuse me - a lady priest oh well...)

then a spell of islam

and basically made money out of telling us how to live
She was a bit mixed up, wasn't she, PP?....
Trying to make sense of this crazy world.
She wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She said/sang, what she felt.
