Good morning, a real teaser from Doc this week! Very straightforward anagrams as usual, but the Unclueds appear to be quite tricky, indeed, not to say daunting. A confirmation for the following Unclueds would be appreciated. Hope you have not given up, Klazo! Thanks in advance!

I'd wait for the next major revamp (currently, Listener recommends the 16th edition, but I haven't seen anything that isn't in my 13th... yet).
Thanks for the advice :-)
I have the 12th edition. 38a is not there.
The 13th edition is not recommended as 500 words which were in the 12th had been removed !
Thanks for that Jazzy.

They must be making room for some more ridiculous words like 'woke' to come our way ! :-(
Yes, jazzgirl is right about the first run of the 13th edition being incomplete (I've confused that edition with the 12th edition, which is complete). A printout of the missing 500 words was subsequently issued (and if you search for, ''Chambers - missing words edition'', you can find the list online).
The first run of the 13th edition had a 'miscellany' for word-lovers awkwardly inserted between the entries for the letter 'M'. This was removed and the 500 missing words were reinstated in the following run (but it's still the 13th edition). I'm using the later run - you can see at a glance if it's the earlier print run because it has a red-edged section midway through (I'd avoid the 'miscellany' - it slows down the thumbing-through process quite a bit}.
T!hanks Prof.Maisie. That is very interesting as I was unaware of the later run of the 13th.
Question Author
ProfessorMaisie, you're right, I had no problem with 38a living in France and appreciating Doc's penchant for the French language as exemplified by 37a. Many thanks again!
All good then. I have the Red 'miscellany' section. And if I don't have an entry in my 12th, I've got you guys to count on. Keep on thumbing ! ;-)
Thanks, jazzgirl - I wouldn't want klazo to end up with the dodgy first run (my 12th edition is in the boot of my car - and still gets thumbed on rare occasions}.
a new question if i may. in 17D are we going for P or B as the first letter or would either do?
On 3D i have LOLL??
On 2D i have A?A???
and i have at 16a T?R??E
could anyone put me out of my misery please
I thought 5D runs the risk of being out of date quickly!

17d P or B (I went with P) the other isn't in Chambers)
3d Loller or Lolled
2d Aranea or Azalea
16a Terete

Not sure what you mean about 5d
Sorry, klazo - 'bowwow' is in (my) Chambers.
Cheers Prof M. £40 or do I get the pen out and and write it at the bottom of the page (just like I did with the answer to 38a) ? ;-)
5d stURGEon is (finally) out of date.
Yes, get the pen out, klazo - why waste paper?
I told you I'm having a bad week (full of cold)

It IS in my copy of the 12th (£40 towards some new reading glasses I suspect)

I see what Johnpiper means now. Thought he meant the word is becoming obsolete.

I need some medicinal help. Cheers ! ;-)
The last time there were alternative answers they were all accepted. Fingers crossed, that is the case with this one.
Thanks Novalis for the info. I might scan and submit it then (In the hope of winning some new reading glasses !

Pass me the Penderyn please Prof M ! :-)
thanks
a bit of a poor crossword imho
This week's Listener took about as long to complete but, on the plus side, it was perfectly formed.
Thanks for reminding me about the Penderyn, klazo (it should help pass the time pleasantly enough}.
