Matakari, we've helped you with almost 700 Spectator puzzles and I'm sure quite a few of those have been south-centred. There was a fairly similar one only a few weeks ago!

43a "In post, Henry's disgrace". Surely this should be SHENT and not shend??

Would that work as well, Solidair? I had Send= Post, with H for Henry inside, and Shend is in Chambers. I think Shent is the past participle, but Sent/Post doesn't really work.

"In the post" could mean "sent"

I am now thinking that "shend" is probably correct because, as you said, "shent" is the past participle.

solidair123 it is most definitely shend to fit with all the crossers. And is not the past tense.
Matakari, you said you would get back to me if you crack the theme.

Deli, Beth, line is what you're looking for. If you have the correct inbetween letters, then you will have the 13 letter (two word) answer.

We've tried and tried to speed things up for Matakari - all sorts of hints, parsings, for hundreds of puzzles, but we don't seem to be getting anywhere fast! I know he appreciates all the help (and answers), but I sometimes think we might be counter-productive, too much of a safety net!

I believe that we all trundle along at different speeds. Some faster than others. I will endeavour to help Matakari and anyone else where I can, And also undoubtedly will need others assistance myself from time to time.
I'm so glad that this group of Speccie enthusiasts exists. :-)
