Thanks, NACW and Klazo, but I've never heard of the name that follows Nosey. I've been checking Google without any luck.
Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses.
Matakari, my hint was ' what word usually follows nosey?'. I thought you, having done literally hundreds of crosswords, wouldn't find it difficult to say, 'Ah, nosey... nosey parker', and then try to get the first name by yourself!
Now the cat is out the bag. My first thought was 'Spike Milligan'
Dotty and Nosey.
Perhaps not quite PC with my assumption. lol :-)
Thanks, Klazo, your comments made me chuckle.
One of my Fav's :

Said Hamlet to Ophelia,
I'll draw a sketch of thee,
What kind of pencil shall I use?
2B or not 2B?

Sorry, But I find him hilarious :-)
KLazo, you seem to be on a roll now! My favourite Shakespearean pun, adaptation is from the camping firm which used to advertise 'the winter of our discount tents'....

Matakari, I hope the massive hints are helping you?
Ha Ha NAC, I remember it well :-)

I once went into Blacks (the camping and outdoor shop from the advert) to purchase a rifle for hunting. But the shop assistant said that Guns aren't lawful here in the UK !
Are they Lawful in France Matakari ?
Question Author
Ha ha ha ha, Klazo, I do not think guns are lawful in France, but I like how you presented that massive hint. I think I'm on the right track now. Many thanks!
;-)
Thanks, Matakari - let's know when you get this one all done.

PS Just out of curiosity, have you come up with many words that follow 'Nosey...'?
Question Author
Thanks, Klazo and NACW, it's done now. And I only came up with Nosey Parker in Chambers.
Thanks, Matakari. I really had expected you to get Parker right away - and without a dictionary! And it was just part of my hint for you to get the author. Still you/we got there in the end. Next week might be Doc again, so you could have a fighting chance. Fingers crossed!
Question Author
Thanks, NACW, looking out for Doc next week! Meanwhile I'll take a look at the Eye crossword.
If you'd googled my quote...
Question Author
Thanks for the quote, Scorpiojo, I thought there was something in it, but it didn't dawn on me to google it. I'll know for the next time how to pick up these subtle hints!
Yes my friend, we know you know. We're just trying to get you to know. Lol

You have the best tutors in the world, believe me! I will try to be the one in between that will hopefully make you understand what they are trying to say.
You're definitely educated enough to grasp the concept of these challenging x words. And you definitely never give up (I love that)
Matakari, someone will have to take over when we retire. That will be you !
So enjoy the process and teach the young.
Much respect from klazo x
Question Author
Good day, Klazo, I appreciate your understanding and your generosity. As a former teacher of French, I know what it is like to be a dedicated tutor. You remind me of my days as a teacher guiding and trying to inspire my charges to pursue their dreams relentlessly! Thanks again, my friend!
Klazo, that's very kind of you to offer to help Matakari with the AB hints . Mine appear to have been more of a hindrance than a help over the past umpteen years! Matakari had one of AB's finest, Kayakamina (spelling?) when he first started out.
I suppose only Matakari can accurately say how much progress he has made since those early days!

Oh how I miss Kayakamina, such a clever chap - I learned so much from him regarding cryptic crosswords.
