The armed forces have stepped in before to provide essential assistance during strikes, particularly during the 1970s strikes when they operated green godesses in place of the fire service.

Not sure who else could do it if the fire service strike again, I think R-M is right.

and even in 1940, the army didnt put out blitz fires did they? They had something else to do ( er run away from the Germans)
